Cambium Networks PTP 650 – Redefining Point to Point Wireless

Cambium NetworksTen years ago, Orthogon Systems released their ‘Gemini’ PTP wireless range. Back then only a handful of vendors were producing systems for the unlicensed frequency bands and even fewer of them were doing it well. Designed and built in the UK, the Gemini product set a new standard for performance and reliability in harsh conditions – environmental or spectral! Two years later the OS Spectra product hit the market and once again blew away the competition. The new product could provide 300Mbps in 30MHz of spectrum and nothing else on the market could get anywhere near this. The Spectra was built on powerful processing and FPGA technology which allowed it to deliver extremely low latency over long distance, even when the line of sight was obstructed. Orthogon pioneered the now commonplace MIMO technology, years before their competitors, and have led the market in PTP wireless ever since.

Orthogon were bought by Motorola who subsequently sold the division off to a VC and became Cambium Networks. The Gemini and Spectra products evolved into the PTP 500 and PTP 600 products and continued to be great sellers. However in recent years it is fair to say that some of the competitors started to catch up – finally! Whilst still the best performing product on the market, the PTP 600 was expensive with a list price of $15k!

November 2013 saw the game change again with the launch of the PTP 650. This is the new flagship point to point product from the R&D team in Ashburton, Devon and once again Cambium are redefining what can be achieved in unlicensed frequencies. The four pillars of all Cambium PTP solutions are Performance, Reliability, Security and Flexibility. The PTP 650 pushes the boundaries of all these values, offering the best wireless point to point spectral efficiency (10.3bps/Hz), the lowest latency (1-3ms), the highest modulation rates, the best NLOS performance, in-built interference mitigation and spectrum analyser, AES128 & 256 FIPS140-2 security and total flexibility of frequency and radio bandwidths. However, possibly the best thing about the PTP 650 is the price. Changes in manufacturing techniques and component costs mean the entry level 125Mbps variant has a list price of just $5,500. This can be software upgraded to 450Mbps for a further $4,990 list price and generous reseller discounts are available from us.

We have demo kit available for anyone who wishes to test the PTP 650 system so you can see for yourselves the amazing performance this system can offer. Purdicom offer free desktop link planning services so if you have a link you would like us to investigate please get in touch. The PTP 650 is in stock and available for next day delivery.
